Don’t let injuries turn into tragedies, take a first aid at sea course this December

Whether you’re an offshore fisherman or a weekend sailor, having the ability to respond to an emergency at sea in a calm, competent manner may just save the life of a fellow crewmember. If you’re looking to learn first aid or to improve upon the first aid skills you already have, you’ll have two chances this December to brush up on your onboard first aid knowledge by attending an area “First Aid at Sea” class. Learn First Aid at Sea this December at the Northwest Maritime Center or at the Seattle Fishermen’s Terminal

Washington Sea Grant, WSU Jefferson County Extension, and the Northwest Maritime Center, will co-sponsor a Coast Guard-approved First Aid at Sea workshop on Wednesday, December 2, 2015.

Topics covered include CPR, patient assessment, hypothermia, cold water, near drowning, shock, trauma, burns, fractures, choking, immobilization, and first aid kits.

When:     Wednesday, December 2, 2015
9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Where:    NW Maritime Center
431 Water Street
Port Townsend, WA

Fee:       $100 ($50 for commercial fishermen)

Fisherman’s Terminal Course
