About Us
Welcome to Three Sheets Northwest.
We’re dedicated to bringing you news, information and opinions about boating and other marine-related issues in the Pacific Northwest. On these pages, we’ll share stories about the people, places, history and happenings that make these waters some of the most beautiful and surprising in the world.
Three Sheets is the brainchild of two former longtime journalists, Marty McOmber and Deborah Bach. We each spent more than a decade toiling at and writing for publications including The New York Times, The Seattle Times, the Baltimore Sun, the Los Angeles Times and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer before going over to The Dark Side (i.e., communications and public relations). Marty now works for a national foundation; Deborah, who until recently was a communications consultant for nonprofits, is Three Sheets’ full-time writer and editor.
We sometimes miss the insanity and chaos of a newsroom. This site is sort of like running our own newspaper, except the deadlines are self-imposed and we’ll never be forced to write stories we’re not interested in.
We’ll strive to bring a high level of professionalism to our reporting but won’t take ourselves too seriously. Boating is about having fun, and we like to eat, drink and swear, well, like sailors.
Our site will feature news stories, profiles, reviews and events aimed at Northwest boaters and anyone else who lives, works and plays on the water. As much as possible, we’ll also link to interesting stories from other publications. And our On the Rocks blog will be a mixed bag of opinions, insights, travel logs and whatever we feel like writing about.
You can contribute as well. We hope our stories and posts will spark discussions, disagreements and the occasional fistfight. We encourage you to use the comment section to share your thoughts with us and other boaters around the Northwest. But please keep it respectful (unless, of course, you’re slagging Jimmy Buffett).
We also hope you’ll send us your story ideas, news tips and event listings.
Have a question? See something we should cover? Know of a special boat or boater? Shoot us an email via the “contact us” page above.
See you out there.
Marty and Deborah
